Respect, Give to gain

Recently there were so many incidents around me that have to do with respect. I took a ride from one of my friends whom worked late last night. He didn't sound right and immediately complained to me about our colleague, Dav. Des was very upset with the way he was treated by Dav. A remark:"Can you use your brain or not?" was too disrespectful and unprofessional.

As an officer going to be, such remark is just too insensitive. Besides, that adds on to the bad judgement of our management to allow such A-hole to convert to an officer. It also gives me another reason why I should leave this organisation and additional boost for me to plan for life after ORD. I had enough. The officers nowadays are not committed as those in the past. They do not have the much needed leadership qualities. Dav, a person whom is not well liked by his peers, stingy and arrogant, always late for work, a bully who always gives juniors problems and so on and on, is going to be an officer. Damn it! He is my future LEADER! I can't believe it! Kudos to his interview and ball-carrying skills that got him there. One thing I definitely giving it to him is his technical competency. His knowledge on engineering, technologies and things to do with wires, machines which do not  have any emotions, is at a respectful level. However, his man management skills, his bonding with his peers, his attitudes are atrocious! Always putting on a 'mask' to be close with people on his level and showing his true self in front of people under him. I can't stand his acts but I prefer it than his original personality.

Enough said. Having to work under such A-hole in future is really depressing. Time to plan and get out of the organisation led by light-balls (as their balls were carried always) and useless 'leaders'. But I have to say that a handful truly deserved respect. Well, what goes around comes around. If you want respect, you have to give it first.

P.S. Happiness. How do you measure 'happiness'? To some people, having lots of money, owning a posh car, having a big house and not worried about life is happiness. To some, having lots of women, alcohol and power is their happiness. Whatever happiness is to us, it comes with a price.

IPPT, Sibei jialat

Panting so badly like I was suffering from a asthma attack. My legs were tired and they could not wait to stop and relax. About 400 meters more to go. The temptation to stop and walk was irresistible. 'No.. I must not stop. I must complete the run. Just once! I just want to take just one time. I'm not going to fail!' I thought to myself. One by one, they overtook me but I am not giving up. 'Alright, past the building. The building.. Here we go!' I sprinted all the remaining 100 meters trying to squeeze out a decent result. My timing, 11 min 46 sec. My worst timing ever since secondary school days. For my category, it is considered a result for silver award. Even though I am not qualified to any award due to my PES status, I always aimed to achieve a result for silver award.

All my results for static stations were getting worse. I believed that ageing the the main contributing factor or maybe, it could be due to my heavier weight. It's over. One of the hurdle being a regular serviceman is cleared. However, I must not let it get worse. Determined to hit the gym and stop skipping cardio exercise. See you next year IPPT!

See you 4pm at the court

Went to shoot some balls in the warm late morning. The shades of the blocks provided some kind of shelter. The basketball court where I used to dominate when I was young was nasty. The floor was dusty due to the new construction of a new neighborhood. The rim was slightly bent and net was neatly taped by I believed, the Filipinos who were playing here. There was a few of them playing on the other side which made the court looked more lively. This court I used to play at, brought back so many invaluable memories. Those youthful days..

I started basketball only when I was fourteen and this highly due to its unpopularity in my primary school. When I was younger, I used to play soccer with my friends during physical education (PE) lessons, after school or after tutorial lessons. I was introduced to soccer by my dad who was a huge Liverpool and Middlesbrough fan. As my family underwent financial crisis when I started out my first year in secondary school, I couldn't join the soccer team as a pair of boots was too expensive for us at that time.

I joined the Boys' Brigade during my first year in Dunman. I like the bonding of the people there and the things they were doing. However, after few months, I was bored of it. There were too many things to prepare. The boots had to be polished, the button, the belt buckle all had to be cleaned. Any of the things not up to the seniors' expectations, you would be reprimanded and punished. Hate that kind of life. When I was into my second semester, my cousin introduced me to basketball. I don't really enjoyed it as it was so hard to get the ball into the hoop. Later, I was influenced by one of my classmates, a school team player whom always invited us to join him for basketball after school. After the death of a member, my school's boy brigade was suspended. In the following year, I joined basketball as my CCA.

I was thinking of just joining my pal for training  and to maintain my fitness. That first day when I went to the training, it happened to be a selection day for my school basketball team. Everyone seemed pretty good except me, who can't really make a shot or understand the rule of the game. To everyone's surprise, I was selected. During the competition, we lost all the games but our teacher in charge was very encouraging and treated us lunch after our last game. I scored only two points throughout the competition and was a total let down in the court.

After the competition, I carried on playing basketball and most of the time at that basketball court near my house. My shooting improved and most importantly, my basics. I was more confident in bouncing the basketball. In my third year, I was lucky to make it into the team. That year, we managed to get through to the second round. After competition, I trained harder and played with my older cousin, Robert, who was a great basketball player(Top scorer in ITE competition). Of course, I still went to my 'playground' to have some games with my friends.

During my fourth year, I improved vastly and in my fourth year which was the most memorable one as we managed to finish fourth in the East Zone and qualified to the National Zone.We missed the quarter-finals marginally. That year was the last year for most of my seniors who were the key players of the team. The loss of them left my school team in bad shape but we still continued to train hard. Every Friday after school and Sunday, I would meet up with my pals at 4 to have some games at the court.

Fifth year, I was made the captain of my school. We made it to the second round but not the semis. I was selected into the combined school team trial but was left out due to injury. I still meet up with my friends at the court till my club coach advised me to stop playing in the street as I'll easily get hurt. From then, I seldom went back to this court. I realized I was playing at a different level. Just few years back, I met up with a pal whom I used to play with at the court. He said the court had been deserted and only kids and soccer players were there. It hurts to see the state of the court now but the memories of it is priceless. Missed those days...
'See you 4pm at the court"
"Sure man! See you there!"

Handmade noodles+Kopi+Straits Times

Blogger, please don't play me out again. I blogged this afternoon and there was an error occurred while I was trying to save my masterpiece or even to publish it. Everything ended up in cyber trash can when a message "Whoops, we are trying to resolve an error." I think it is something like that. Can't really remember. Alright blogger... Stop playing me out again. It took me some time and inspiration to write and I love writing. Even though not many people read this blog, but I just enjoyed doing it. Thanks.. and here we go..

I thought about neglecting this blog forever after returning back to Singapore. There's nothing much to post about life in Idaho. I thought being back in Singapore, a place I called home for 27 years, would be enjoyable and great. I thought I can stop complaining about how much I missed Singapore, the food, the entertainment etc. After close to a year back in Singapore, I missed Idaho dearly.

The days of hitting the gym so consistently and conveniently, days of owning a car and everywhere seemed to be just a crank away were sorely missed. I missed the peace, the slow-paced life of countryside Mountain Home. Travels to nearby cities like Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, San Francisco were unforgettable. Unlike life in Singapore, everyone seemed to be rushing to work and getting to school. Being small, the entertainments are limited and expensive. There's no beautiful scenery anywhere except for buildings and skyscrapers. The people are not as friendly and polite as the Americans. There were so many fights everywhere. Crossing road in Singapore is like swimming across Nile river. You'll never know when you will get hit by reckless and dangerous drivers, both local and foreign. Singapore has changed so much.

When I left for Idaho in January 2010, there wasn't as many road accidents. Places were not as crowded and most importantly, living cost was not as high. When I  returned to celebrate my 26th birthday, there was some mild differences. Filipinos could be seen more often on the streets. They are no maids like in the past. They are working as waitresses, cashiers, customer service officers and other jobs that were used to be taken up by teenagers whom were enjoying their holiday break. China Chinese can be seen holding positions like bus captains and I'm not surprised as their existence had already been felt since I left. The growing number of Pinoy's grocery shops explain the  number of Filipinos in Singapore.

Singapore, a safe place to live in? Not quite. When I was in Idaho, there was news of gang fights in Singapore which led to the death of a young guy. Recently, there were two cases of gang fights reported leaving one guy needed stitches to attach his nose back and another losing his ear. Few months before that, I was in Taiwan for holidays when two young boys were killed on the road and ever since that, there were more road accidents. What is going wrong? Where are the law and order? What have the police been doing? I thought Mountain Home Police Department would have done a better job. Utterly disappointed. Gangsters are the result of parents neglecting their children since young due to whatever commitments they had. We were encouraged to produce more babies but with the kind of stressful environment we are in, are we ready to take up the responsibilities?

Standard of living is constantly rising. Things are getting more expensive and cars are almost not affordable for the middle class. All thanks to the new regulation that car buyers must pay 50% for the price of the car including COE. What!? COE?? A piece of paper to show that you own a car? Yes, indeed. It is just like the title of the car in states. I would rather spend the kind money to get another piece of paper and be another degree graduate on the street. Other than the rising price of cars, the housing price is even worse. The amount spent to own a small home is enough to get a bungalow in the states!

As life is getting tougher, people are getting more stressful. With the amount of stress on them, they can't produce babies. When they can't produce babies, "foreign talents" come in to help the ageing population. As foreign talents pay are lower, it make jobs more competitive and even more stressful. And the vicious cycle goes on and on. Those who have babies will find life even tougher. They either spend their life savings to get a car to provide transport for their wives and children or they will have to squeeze in the crowded public transport with hands full of babies necessities. Future is bleak over here.

There is so much to plan in Singapore. Sometimes I was left staring into the blank after having lunch at a nearby coffeeshop. The life of having a bowl of handmade noodles followed by a cup of 'Kopi' with the companionship of Straits Times just gets tougher day by day.

On the way home!

Am in San Francisco, waiting for flight to Hong Kong. I couldn't believe that I'm finally going home for good. I'm filled with mixed feelings. It was pretty hurt to leave a place I called home for past two years. Leaving so many joy an laughter behind. However, I have to say I enjoyed the last 6 months at mountain home. For the last 6 months, theres harmony at work. Though still not as one, but things definitely improved. I enjoyed working under my new IC as much as the previous one. So much joy and laughter that make me feels so fortunate and blessed. Really want to thank them. There's misery at work but it just make me a better person. I appreciate the offices who have so much confidence in me. Thanks! At least I finish this adventure in a high note. Life in Idaho ended and life back in singapore begins.. life's tough but I'm going to take it positively and fight strongly!

Last day @ home

Yes! Finally this day arrives. Few more days to depart to my love ones arms. Tonight is the last night I'm staying in caribou, a place I called home for past two years and three months. Many memories here that I will never forget. Everyday as I am counting down, all the memories of the past two years just flash past my mind bits by bits. I know that someday I'll be back again but that will be different. This is the place I learnt to cook and appreciates what my mum had been doing for me since I'm young. It's not easy to maintain a house and neither it is easy to survive alone. In the beginning, I was pretty emotional after leaving my comfort zone. This place taught me some survival skills and make me a more mature man. There were silly things which I've done in the past and those make me a better man. Cleaning up the house was pretty tiring but looking at the numbered days going back home push me harder. I would like to thank this little home for providing me the shelter I need. Tonight is my last night with you, hope there's better owner to take care of you. Alios! Days left: 3

Two more weekends...

It's been such a long time since I updated. Been too lazy and occupied to update. Besides, there's also a lack of inspiration to write. It is coming to an end. My days in Idaho are numbered and I can't wait for that day to return home.

For the past one month, I've been packing my boxes and planning things to buy. Cash flow was running low and I have to save up some for the rainy days. Chelsea and Max are always on my mind even though they are not as close to me as Honey. I bought a bed for Chelsea and some stuffs to groom and feed them. A token of appreciation to them for helping me to accompany Juliana when I was away. Special credits goes to Chelsea! I love you! Thank you!

Other than packing up stuffs to bring home, I'm also busy with clearing my house. Gone are the sofa, TV console, television etc.. Was trying to get rid of my mattress.. seems hard as no one is buying.. Other than this I believe all the cookware can be disposed.

Last two weekends left, I believed I've done enough shopping. The only stuffs left were "orders" from my cousin and friends. Looking forward to receive my first ever headphones from Sennhaiser and some little gifts from Amazon. Gonna get all stuffs done ASAP!

Last but not least, things ain't going smooth at home. Well, Mum is over-worried with Sis again and of course, Sis is doing silly things AGAIN! So.. I am going back to sort things out. Hopefully, there is positive outcome. Anyway, Mum will sleep better with Tempur Pedic I got for her.

Mr Earth! I know you are helping me by rotating a little quicker recently as the strong wind here and earthquakes around the world suggest. But.. Please don't move too quick or lives will be lost unnecessarily. Thanks! God bless!
